Preston "Bill" McClung, 89, of Nettie, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at his home following a long illness.
Born February 4, 1927, at Quinwood, he was the son of the late Joseph and Esta Orndorff McClung.
Bill retired from the mining industry as an inspector. He was a proud World War II Army veteran. Bill was of the Baptist faith. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years Janet McClung; his daughter Margaret McClung; his grandson Brian Amick; 3 brothers Ransom, Alden and Glen "PeeWee" McClung; and 2 sisters Cleda Losch and Bonnie Keller.
Survivors include his daughter Esta Jane Amick and husband Keith of Leivasy; 4 sons Donald and wife DD of Whitesville, Mike and wife Susan of Greensboro, North Carolina, Billy Dale and wife Judy of Plant City, Florida, and Lloyd and companion Jewell Bragg of Nettie; 1 sister Gay Walkup of Inwood; 1 brother Denver McClung and wife Dottie of Quinwood; 9 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends. The family wishes to thank the wonderful hospice workers that gave such great care to Bill.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, December 17, in the New Prospect Baptist Church at Leivasy, with Pastors Tim McClung and Troy George officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery at Carl.
Friends may call two hours before the service from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. at the church.
Bill's grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
