DAWSON - Paul Curtis Rhodes, 88, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea, following a long illness.
Born July 22, 1916, in Cow Town, Fayette County, he was the son of the late Kenna Curtis and Ada Elizabeth McClung Rodes.
Mr. Rhodes was retired from the C&O Railroad with 30 years of service and a farmer. He was a member of the Maude Chapel Methodist Church of Dawson and had attended the Meadow Grove Baptist Church in Dawson since 1970.
Other than his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Belva Faye Walkup Rhodes; an infant daughter, Gladys Faye; and an infant great-grandson, Garrett Paul Johnson.
Survivors include a daughter, Juanita Keeney and husband, Roger, of Dawson; nine sons, Paul Lee Rhodes and wife, Jackie, of Warren, Pa., Johnny Rhodes and wife, Cindy, of Dawson, Gene Rhodes of Woodbridge, Va., Sam Rhodes and wife, Mary, of Alexandria, Va., Harold Rhodes and friend, Judy McFall, of Fairlea, Curtis Rhodes of Dawson, Dwight Rhodes and wife, Denita, of Fredericksburg, Va., Richard Rhodes and wife, Sue, of Clinton, Ohio, and Bobby Rhodes and wife, Alice, of Dawson; one brother, Everette Rodes of Dawson; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, one stepgreat-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Meadow Grove Baptist Church in Dawson, with the Pastor Roy Teubert officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
