RUPERT - Bill Shafer, 82, of Rupert, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea following a long illness.
Born March 23, 1926 in Rupert, he was the son of the late William Elvin and Kathryn Amanda Zopp Shafer.
Bill worked as a car dealer and proprietor. He was employed by Exxon and Jeep. He was co-owner of Shafer Hardware. He served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II and was a past member and president of the Rupert Rotary Club and the Elks Club of Lewisburg and a member of the Big Clear Creek Baptist Church of Rupert.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jackie Shafer.
Survivors include his wife, Mina T. Shafer of Rupert; three daughters, Wyon Wheatley of Richmond, Va., Jill Mayer and husband, Mike of Virginia, and Billie Jean Shafer of Rupert.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 23, 2008, at the Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle with Pastor Glen Kuhn officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville.
Friends may call one hour before the service from 1 to 2 p.m. There will be no evening visitation.
