Elizabeth "Libby" Oliver McCutcheon, age 89, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, died December 11, 2002.
She had been a resident of Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg since June of 1996. She was known as Libby and was a kindergarten teacher to many.
Born March 20, 1913, at Green Bank, she was the daughter of James W. and Annie Gum Oliver.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Leone O. Harper and Lucille O. Moomau, and brother, Lake R. Oliver. Her husband, Luster Clark McCutcheon, II, died in March, 1999. Her son, Luster Clark McCutcheon, III, known as "L.C.", died in an accident two weeks ago, on November 25, 2002.
Surviving are her son, James O. McCutcheon, of Gaithersburg; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Libby McCutcheon was a school teacher for 39 years. The first 17 years were in Pocahontas County. From 1951 until her retirement in 1973 she taught kindergarten in Gaithersburg Elementary School.
She was married to Clark McCutcheon for 58 years. She and her husband helped to establish the Gaithersburg Presbyterian Church in 1964. The McCutcheons moved to Gaithersburg in 1951 and stayed there uniti 1982 when they moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida. They returned to Montgomery County in 1996, living at Asbury Methodist Village.
Mrs. McCutcheon was a Past Matron of Cass Chapter #124 Order of the Eastern Star in Cass.
A memorial service was held Tuesday morning at the Guild Memorial Chapel at Asbury Methodist Villege, Gaithersburg.
