Emma J. Daniel Dies In Oceana
Mrs. Emma Jane Lucas Daniel, 84, of Oceana and Sophia, died at her Oceana residence Tuesday at 12 noon, following a long illness.
She was born at Saxon, Sept. 13, 1886, the daughter of the late William Clark Lucas and Elmira Milam Lucas.
She was married to Franklin Leslie Daniel who preceded her in death April 17, 1963.
She had been a resident of Oceana for the past 29 years and prior to that time had lived in Sophia.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Sophia and a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 110 of Pineville.
Surviving are two sons A. K. of Mullens and Ivan of Oceana, two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Hammond and Mrs. Miriam Burns of Sophia; four sisters, Mrs. Sarah Godby of Harper, Mis. Citie Manning of Milton, Mrs. Betty Fitzgerald and Mrs. Rosa Patton, both of Beckley; two brothers, French Lucas of Beckley, and Adam Lucas of Layland; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, [sic] great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Melton Mortuary Chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Dewey Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be James Lucas, Dawson Lucas, Roy J. Lucas, French Manning, Chester Lucas, French Westmoreland, Cody Daniel.
The body will remain at Melton Mortuary where friends may call from 5 until 9 p.m. today.
