YORK, Pa. - Charles E. "Duke" Hawkins, 60, of York, formerly of Crawley, W.Va., died March 11, 1999, in a York hospital after a short illness.
He was a 34-year resident of York and a retired machine operator from Caterpillar, York. He was a member of Big Clear Creek Baptist Church, Rupert, W.Va., and UAW 786, York.
Surviving: fiancee, Gail Ratliff of Rupert; daughters, Wendy Sue Ness and Stephany L. Luckett, both of York; sons, Charles E. Jr. of Baltimore, Joseph of Chicago; mother, Arbutus "Bootz" McCoy Hawkins of Clintonville, W.Va.; sister, Deanna H. Bennett of Clintonville; brother, Steven J. of Crawley; paternal grandmother, Gertrude C. Hawkins, currently a resident at Heartland of Rainelle; one grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle, with the Rev. Leroy Crane and the Rev. Sterling Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, MD 20814, ATTN: Communications Department.
