Hobert Lewis, age 74 of Alderson, died Friday, May 31 in University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, VA following a short illness.
Born March 23, 1922 at Esty, WV, he was a son of the late George and Lula Baldwin Lewis.
Mr. Lewis was a water mechanic with the C&O Railroad for seven yaers, was retired after 20 years of service as a plumber at the Federal Correctional Institution for Women at Alderson, was a member of the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church at Alderson where he was a member of the Methodist Men of the Choir and had served on many church committees over the years. He was a member of tri-county Memorial VFW Post 6723 Alderson.
He was a World War II US Army veteran, having served during the Battle of the Bulge, was a staff sergeant in the 2nd Armored Division and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He was proceded in death by brothers, James, Lacy and Henry Lewis, and a sister, Lula Lewis.
Survivors include his wife, Samuella Shawver Lewis of Alderson; sons, Craig H. Lewis of Fort Spring and Gary R. Lewis and Mark A. Lewis, both of Alderson; daughters, Drema G. Lewis of Fairlea, Dinah L. King, of Marietta, GA and Lisa A. Stacy of White Sulphur Springs; stepmother, Ethel Lewis of Williamsburg; brothers, Sidney, Orville and Harrison Lewis, all of York, PA, Bradford Lewis of Renick and Robert Lewis of Williamsburg; sisters, Betheleen McCoy of Renick, Mary Walton of Hillsboro, Wanda Blankenship of Williamsburg, Greenbrier Co., WV; grandchildren, Jennifer and Jason King of Marietta, GA, Adam Lewis of Fort Spring and Jennifer Stacy of White Sulphur Springs; many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2PM today at Johnson United Methodist Church, Alderson, with Revs. Rick Curtis and Hobert Prunty officiating. Burial will be in the Alderson Cemetery, Alderson.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
Tri-County Memorial VFW Post No. 6723 will serve as pallbearers.
Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson is in charge of arrangements.
