GEORGE FRANKLIN PHIPPS, 67, OF Sandlick, died Jan. 20, 1993, in Beckley Hospital of an apparent heart attack. He was a retired coal miner and landscape worker. He was a member of Sandlick Independant Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II. Surviving: wife, Pansey L. Phipps; sons, Larry Gene of Arcanum, Ohio, Emory Paul of North Pole, Alaska, Barry Dale of Lewisburg, Ohio, Douglas Wayne of Phillipsburg, Ohio, Darrell Edward, Michael Dewayne and John Lester, all of Brookville, Ohio, Gary Dean of Piqua, Ohio, Donald Jerry and Orville Jefferie, both of Sandlick; daughters, Charlotte Ann Phipps of Crab Orchard, Mary Ellen Phipps of Sandlick, Sharon Lee Painter of Eccles; brothers, Lacy of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Carl Therman and Joe, both of Denver, Harold G. of Dayton, Ohio, Grover of Union, Ohio, Barney of Lewisburg, Ohio, Charles James of West Milton, Ohio; sisters, Anna Mae Daniel of Sophia, Mary Lee Seals of Englewood, Ohio, Frankie June Stover of Union, Ohio, Margie Ellen Kline of Denver; 25 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Mattsville Community Church, Sandlick, with the Rev. Kevin Webb officiating. Burial will be in Caperton Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church. Melton Mortuary, Beckley, is in charge.
