Margie R. Sykes, 83, of Clintonville, passed away Monday, July 27, 2009, at her home, following a long illness.
Born Nov. 18, 1925, at Jerryville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Orville H. Walkup and the late Bonnie McClung Walkup.
She was a member of the James Chapel United Methodist Church of Clintonville. She loved her flowers and her garden, and lived for her family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sykes was also preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd L. Sykes, on Sept. 29, 1999; a son, Orville “Bub” Sykes; a sister, Patsy Craft; two brothers, Warren and Keith Walkup; and two infant siblings, Leola and Leon Walkup.
Survivors include: one daughter, Sharon Craft, and husband, Jerry, of Clifton Forge, Va.; five sons, Duane A. Sykes and wife, Angelia, of White Sulphur Springs, Michael L. Sykes and wife, Kim, of Romney, Wayne Edward Sykes and wife, Robin, of Hiwassiee, Va., William D. Sykes and wife, Cynthia, of Clintonville, and David R. Sykes and wife, Jane, of Clintonville; daughter-in-law, Kathy, of Falls Church, Va.; 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m., Friday, July 31, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastors Von Sadler and Garlin Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 30, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel in Rainelle.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the James Chapel Building Fund, c/o J. R. Crane, 258 Henson Rd., Clintonville, W.Va. 24931.
