JOSEPH S. "JOE" HINES, 83, OF RUPERT, Greenbrier County, died July 23, 1989, at Humana Hospital Greenbrier Valley, Fairlea, after a short illness. He was a 27-year resident of Rupert and a member of Victory Temple. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a retired foreman for the state Department of Highways. Surviving: wife, Evelyn Cales Hines; daughters, Patty Willey, Betty Lanham, Gloria Puffenbarger and Nina Shaffer, all of Rupert, Ramona Oney of Dobson, N.C.; son, James D. "Jackie" Cales of Rupert; sisters, Carrie Riley and Ollie Young, both of Charleston, Lena McClung of Hominy Falls; brothers, Fred of Canvas, Cecil of Hines; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle, with the Rev. Felix Baker officiating. Burial will be in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
