SMOOT ? William Murrill ?Bill? Miller, 77, of Meadow Bluff, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 17, 2009, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Born July 6, 1931, at Meadow Bluff, he was the son of the late Roy H. and Mary Sharp Miller.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Miller; a sister, Irene Heaster Legg; and his first wife, Shelvie Jean Miller.
Bill was an accomplished farmer, and had received several awards for his farming. He had previously held offices in the Farm Bureau, Southern Soil Conservation, the USDA and the FSA. He was known for his love of farming and was a former Hoffman seed salesman. Although he had no biological children of his own, he helped and inspired many young men in the area. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Diana M. Hunter Miller of Meadow Bluff; her children who dearly loved him, Claudette M. Smith and husband, Vince, of Brandywine, Dorothea M. Wickline of Meadow Bluff, and William Roy M. Wickline and companion, Tena, of Meadow Bluff. He had a special granddaughter, Carla M. Dempsey; twin grandsons, Vince II and Brandon Smith; also his stepchildren of his first wife, Janie Bostic of Rainelle, Kevin Pitsenbarger of Elkview, and their children, Garrett, Dakota and Katlyn Bostic of Rainelle, and Kevin II and Colby Pitsenbarger of Elkview. He has three sisters, Sue Cruse of Arizona, Mary Lou (Gene) Hutsenpiller of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Helen (Jesse) Hutsenpiller of Smoot. He had many nieces and nephews; and his special cattle dogs, Duke, Little Man, Lad and Rebel.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Les Mullins officiating. Burial will follow at Old Amwell Cemetery, Meadow Bluff, W.Va.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at the funeral home.
