MRS. BESS JOHNSON, 102, OF RUPERT, died Sept. 8, 1990, in Humana Hospital-Greenbrier Valley, Fairlea, after a short illness. She was retired from Greenbrier County Board of Education, where she was employed by Rupert High School. She was a member of Bascom United Methodist Church, Rupert, and a homemaker. Surviving: a grandson and granddaughter, and three great-grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bascom United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Eddie Keeney and the Rev. Sterling Morgan officiating. Burial will be in [End of the] Trail Cemetery, Clintonsville. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Smathers Funeral Home, Rainelle, and one hour prior to service at the church.
