BIG STONE GAP, Va. ? Jeffery Dwayne Jones, 38, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2008, at his home.
He was a lifelong resident of Big Stone Gap and a graduate of Powell Valley High School. He was a retired conductor for the Norfolk-Southern Railroad. He had also worked for Fraley's Inc. and Birmingham Bolt Co. He was a member of The Cave Church in Norton, Va., where he played bass in the praise band.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dewey M. Jones.
Surviving are his wife of 16 years, Cindi Jones; his son, Nathaniel David Jones of Big Stone Gap; his daughter, Kacie Leann Jones of the home; his mother, Violet Boggs Jones of Big Stone Gap; two sisters, Patty Jones Egan and husband Gary of Kingsport, Tenn., and Pam Jones Lawson and husband Fain of Wise, Va.; one brother, Rick Jones and wife Teresa of Coeburn, Va.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Jimmy Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
Jeff requested no floral tributes be sent to the services but wanted memorials be made to The Cave Church, P.O. Box 96, Norton, VA 24273, which will assist in the further education of his children. E-mail condolences may be sent to holding@compunet.net.
