JAMES A. "RED" HOUCHINS, 83, OF Beckley, died Saturday in a Beckley hospital. He was a native of Montgomery and was a retired machinist for C&O Railway with 50 years of service. He was a Methodist, a member of Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch Masons and the Brotherhood of Railway Machinists. He was a 63-year resident of Raleigh County. Surviving: wife, Beatrice Phipps Houchins; daughters, Patricia Kaye Reed and Linda Jean Edens, of Salina, Ohio; brothers, Luther C. of Lebanon, Va., William H. of Akron, Ohio; sister, Dorcas Houchins of Beckley; two grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley, with the Rev. Raymond Rowe officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, with Masonic graveside rites. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
