    DAMERON ? Gale P. Martin, 80, of Dameron, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at a Charleston hospital due to an extended illness.

    He was born May 25, 1919, in Greenbrier County, to the late Phil and Mattie Kennison Martin.

    He served in the Air Force, was a member of the U.M.W.A. and was a farmer who also loved to feed his birds and deer. He was a Christian.

    Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Garland and Lockie; a sister, Virginia; and one daughter, Laura.

    Gale is survived by a sister, Glenna of Charleston; seven children; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special caregivers, Ronnie Martin and Jane Davis; numerous nieces and nephews; staff of Hilltop Nursing Home, who made his last years happy and comfortable, and numerous friends and neighbors.

    Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Rainelle. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.

    Pal Lowe, 66 of Fries, Va., formerly of the Drill Community near Honaker, Va., died Saturday morning in a Lebanon hospital of natural causes.

    Born in Russell County, Va., he was the son of the late John and Ellen Sanders Lowe. He was a retired coal miner.

    Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Virginia Johnson of Cold Harbor, N. Dak., Mrs. Bonnie Dotson of Lambertville, Mich., Mrs. Juanita Counts of Meadow Bluff; one sister, Miss Minnie Lowe of Honaker; two brothers, Clyde Lowe of Honaker and Earl Lowe of Meadowview, Va., 17 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.

    Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Honaker Funeral Home in Honaker, Va.

    Lewis married Margie Carrie Phipps on 6 Apr 1934 in Quinwood, Greenbrier Co., WV, and was divorced on 21 Apr 1959 in Lewisburg, Greenbrier Co., WV.     MEADOW BRIDGE - Margie Carrie Counts, 80, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 1997, in a Hinton hospital following a short illness.

    Born Dec. 21, 1916, in Kilsyth, she was the daughter of the late Lewis E. and Virginia Haley Phipps.

    Mrs. Counts was a homemaker and had been a resident of Meadow Bridge since 1987.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Watson Counts in 1987; a daughter, Bonnie Dotson; three sisters, Effie Chase, Blanch Thompson and Frances Hizer; four brothers, Hansford Phipps, Lewis E. Phipps, Harry F. Phipps and Noah F. Phipps.

    Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Falls of Sinks Grove and Juanita Counts of Meadow Bridge; a son-in-law, Robert Dotson of Lambertville, Mich.; three sisters, Stella Hunter of Meadow Bluff, Gertrude Thompson and Louise Lloyd, both of Lordsburg, N.M.; a brother, Ulysses Phipps of Arizona; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

    Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Rainelle with the Rev. Leroy Crane officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.

    Friends may call from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home in Rainelle.

    Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

    Police Court Fines

    Two motorists were lodged in the Raleigh County Jail Tuesday on charges of driving while intoxicated after both had been involved in minor accidents.

    Clint Howery, of Daniel, was arrested after a wreck at Daniels. Lewis Phipps, 66, of Meadow Bluff, Greenbrier County, was jailed after he ran his car through a guard rail at Crab Orchard. The car was damaged extensively, but Phipps was not injured.

    Lewis Phipps, Meadow Bluff, was fined $50 and costs yesterday by Thurman after pleading guilty to a charge -of driving while intoxicated. Phipps also had his license revoke for six months because of the charge.

    Lewis E. Phipps Rites Saturday

    MEADOW BLUFF (RNS) - Lewis Edwards Phipps, 78, of Meadow Bluff died at 10 a.m. Thursday following a long illness.

    A retired timberman, Edwards was born in Raleigh County, Jan. 16, 1888, son of the late Crockett and Mary Luvene Phipps.

    Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ellen; seven daughters, Mrs. Chase of Hillsboro, Ore., Mrs. Louise Lloyd of Banks, Ore., Mrs. Blanch Thompson of Clintonville, Mrs. Stella Hunter of Meadow Bluff, Mrs. Marjorie McCarty of Hines, Mrs. Francis Hizer of Crawley, and Mrs. Gertrude Thompson of Sam Black; four sons, Hansford of Hillsboro, Edward of Banks, Ulysses of Hillsboro and Noah of Beaverton, Ore.; three sisters, Norma Phipps of Prosperity, Mrs. Wade Foster of Beckley, and Della Honaker of Beckley; 35 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.

    Services will be held at the Nickell Funeral Home Chapel at East Rainelle at 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Rex Ball in charge.

    Burial will follow in the Old Amwell Cemetery.

    (Research):Lewis had a sawmill set up at Marfrance, Pollock Knob and at Meadow Bluff.

    Mrs. Phipps' Rites Slated

    MEADOW BLUFF (RNS) - Mrs. Virginia Ellen Phipps, 83, died Thursday in a Fairlea hospital ater a long illness.

    She was a member of the Soule Chapel United Methodist Church at Meadow Bluff.

    Born July 22, 1892, at Hinton, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Mildred Haley.

    Survivors include seven daughters, Mrs. Gertie Thompson of Lordsburg, N.M., Mrs. Elsie Chase of Hillsboro, Ore., Mrs. and Blanche [T]hompson of Meadow Bluff, Mrs. Margie Counts of Alderson, Mrs. Frances Hiser of Crawley, Mrs. Stella Hunter o[f] Meadow Bluff and Mrs. Louise Lloyd of Valbese, N.C.; two sons, Ulysses of Tucson, Ariz., and Noah of Toledo, Ore., one brother, John Haley of Sophia; one sister, Mrs. Goldie Cook of Baltimore, Md.; 38 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

    Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Smathers Funeral Home in Rainelle with Rev. Esker S. Groves in charge. Burial will be in Old Amwell Cemetery at Crawley.

    Friends may call after 5 p.m. Saturday.
