SMOOT ? Cecil Robert "Sparky" Sparks, 75, of Dougher Knob Road, Smoot, passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at his home, following an extended illness.
Born July 14, 1935, at Trout, W.Va., he was the son of the late Alex and Beatrice Armentrout Sparks. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Sims and Bertie Ann Sparks; a brother, Richard Allen Sparks, and by a son-in-law, Kerry A. Holliday, whom he loved as a son.
Mr. Sparks was a member of the Smoot Baptist Church; he was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and the North American Hunting Club.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 54 years, Freda Houchins Sparks of Smoot; two daughters, Sherry Ann Holliday of Smoot and Sharon Lee Bradley and husband, Jeff, of Crawley; six grandchildren, Robert Holliday and wife, Crisey, of Smoot, Steve Osborne and fianc?e Shannon of Hines, Heath Holliday and wife, Tarra, of Smoot, Patrick Holliday and wife, Kelly, of Smoot, Kerrie Ann Weikle and husband, Ben, of Union, Tara L. Holliday and fianc? Madison of Smoot; eight great-grandchildren, Haley, Karli, Alexa, Kerry, Abigail, Seamus, Lindsey, and Cameron; two sisters, Lola Sims and husband, Roy, of Hebron, Ohio, and Phyllis Palmer and husband, Rick, of Newark, Ohio; two brothers, Roger Sparks of Clintonville and Ronald Sparks of Clintonville; very special in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews, and his special little furry friend, Pebbles.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at the Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Jim Luchsinger officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
