Carl G. Corns, 78, of Hobe Sound passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at his home. Born in Dobra, W.Va., he had been a resident of Hobe Sound for the past 23 years. He moved to the area from St. Albans. Prior to retirement, he was purchasing director for Union Carbide in South Charleston for 32 years. He was also employed with FPL in Indiantown, Fla., for three years. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church, Hobe Sound and a fourth degree Knights of Columbus. His daughter, Debbie Kane predeceased him in 1996. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Fran Corns of Hobe Sound, Fla.; two sons, Dick Corns and his wife, Sylvia of South Charleston, and Eddie Corns and his wife, Kathy of Winter Springs, Fla.; his sisters, Theda Chafin of Dunbar and four grandchildren, Brian and Todd Corns, Jamie and Jennifer Corns. A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at St. Christopher Catholic Church, Hobe Sound. In lieu of other remembrances, donations may be made to St. Christopher Catholic Church, 12001 SE Federal Highway, Hobe Sound, Fla. 33455. Arrangements are under the direction of Young & Prill Funeral Home, Stuart.
