Ward Allen Crane, 90, of Durham, formerly of Ocean Isle Beach, died Sunday, February 19, 2012 in the Durham Regional Hospital.
Born in Charleston, West Virginia on October 16, 1921, he was a son of the late Herbert Allen and Anna Mae Uhl Crane. He was a United States Naval Aviator Cadet from 1942 until 1943; and a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps from 1943 until 1945 having received three Bronze Stars, the Air Medal, and the Medal of Valor. He was a retired insurance company manager. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Crane.
Survivors include two sons, Scott A. Crane and wife, Kathi of Durham, and Barry W. Crane of Willow Springs; a daughter, Julie D. Crane Levy and husband, Howard of Richmond, VA; a sister, Virginia Lee Marr of Washington, DC; and grandchildren, Jennifer Crane Harden, Jacqueline Crane, Scotty Crane, Jeffrey Levy and Samantha Levy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2012 in Jennies Branch Baptist Church by The Reverend Robbie Stephens. Interment will follow in the Jennies Branch Baptist Church with military honors.
