- Obituary -- James Austin Smith
RAINELLE -- J. A. (Jay) Smith, 63, died Saturday, Nov. 24, in a Fairlea hospital following a long illness.
Born Feb. 7, 1927, at Quinwood, he was the son of the late Joseph Austin and Myrtle McClung Smith.
Mr. Smith was a retired Nationwide Insurance agent, a Coast Guard veteran, was a member of the Rupert Rotary Club, was a member of the Rainelle United Methodist Chucrch, where he was a former Sunday School superintendent, and was a former Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Carrie O'Dell and Pat Dabney, and two brothers, Lloyd and Harry Smith.
Survivors include his wife Ruby Jean Sanford Smith; a daughter, Susan Jean Smith of Chicago, Ill.; a son, James A. Smith III, of Beckley and a sister, Emma Lou Parker of Charlottesville, Va.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p. m. In the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle with the Revs. Phyllis Harvey and Herbert T. Parker officiating. Burial will be in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville.
