- Obituary -- Zada Mae Crookshanks
Zada Mae Crookshanks, 97, of Sewell Mountain, Rainelle, took the hand of Jesus and went to her eternal home, Monday, September 9, 2019, following a long illness.
Born July 4, 1922, on Big Sewell Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Matt and Betty Ann Crookshanks Sanford.
Mae was a member of the Big Sewell Baptist Church, where she played the piano for many years. She worked at the old tent factory in Rainelle; the Hanover Shoe factory in Summersville; canned the fruits of her husband’s garden, often times for friends. She was a hardworking homemaker who enjoyed cleaning and mowing with a push mower. Mae was not only hardworking, she was so creative, playing mandolin and guitar, along with the piano; and writing poetry.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, William Steward Crookshanks , her son Don William Crookshanks; 2 grandchildren Carolyn Annette and Kevin Michael Crookshanks; and her 12 siblings.
Survivors include 1 son Mike Crookshanks (Deborah) of Lewisburg; 3 daughters Peggy Hudson of Hiawassee, Georgia, Shirley Hudson (Dave) of Mentor, Ohio, and Nancy Kaminski (Frank) Sewell Mountain; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 13, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Kermit Hunter officiating.
Burial will follow in the Sims Cemetery on Loops Road.
