John Thomas Hedrick, 98, of Dawson passed away on Wednesday morning, January 29, 2020, at his home.
Born on October 19, 1921, at Clintonville, he was the son of the late Marion Hedrick and Carrie Sheppard Hedrick.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Hylda Wells Hedrick in 2003; 1 sister, Ruth Arnold and 2 brothers, Charles Hedrick and Walter Hedrick.
John was a World War II Navy veteran. A large portion of John’s Navy Service was with SACO (the Sino-American Cooperative Organization) serving in an intelligence – gathering capacity on the ground in China. He was a teacher in Greenbrier County before his promotion to principal, first in Greenbrier County and later in Fayette County. He was a member of Meadow Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Diane (Chuck) Criscillis of GA and Carrie Hanes of VA; 2 sons, Darrell (Cheryl) Hedrick of MO and Kevin (Pam) Hedrick of Wheeling, WV; Grandchildren, MeLynn (Zach) Hensley, Katie Hedrick, Christian Hanes and Hannah Hanes; sister, Mary Dunbar and 2 brothers, Arthur Hedrick and Clyde Hedrick.
Service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 2, 2020 at Meadow Grove Baptist Church, Dawson with Pastor Billy Pate officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville. Friends may call from 1:00 until time of service at the church.
