    • Obituary -- Ruth Elva Armstrong Beitz

Ruth Elva Beitz, 91, of Beckley departed this life on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley after a short illness.

Born November 12, 1919, in Fayette County, W. Va., she was the second of seven children of the late Joseph and Truma Sevy Armstrong.

Besides being a nuturing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Ruth was a homemaker most of her life. During WW II she was employed at Narrows, Va., and Meadow River Lumber Company in Rainelle. She was also an employee of the Peoples Company during the Vietnam Era.

For 47 consecutive years, Ruth won a total of 164 ribbons for her prized flowers and needlework as an exhibitor in the State Fair of West Virginia. She was well known for her "green thumb" and seamstress skills by all who knew her.

Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Walter Beitz, Jr. of Beckley; her daughter-in-law, Brenda Kay Beitz of Beckley; two brothers, Howard and Lester Armstrong of Corliss; and her sisters Ida Burr of Charmco and Zella Knapp of Rupert.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her only son Joseph Walter Beitz of Beckley; her only granddaughter, Tara Lynn Taylor and her husband Richard of Beckley; and two beautiful great-granddaughters, Madison Darby and Emma Reese Taylor who will miss making her smile. She is also survived by two loving sisters, Betty Wright of Corliss and Beatrice Cutlip of Rupert; three sisters-in-law, Janet Armstrong of Corliss, Bea Beitz of Rupert, and Lloyd Judy or Michigan; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2011 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Beckley with Reverand Gene Bennett officiating. Entombment will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville.
