| Notes |
- The following are random notes and information as transcribed Saturday, March 17, 2001 by Michael Pavesi compiled during a visit of Ollie Hines with Prudence Crane Piercy at Ollie's home in Charleston.
· Ollie's full name is Ollie Kathleen Hines Young.
· Ollie was 20 years old when she left Rupert to find work in Charleston. Pru's recollection is that Ollie was closer to being 18 when she made this trip. Pru recalls vividly when Ollie came by her house to say goodbye. Ollie and Pru's oldest sister Lula were friends and spent leisure time together. Ollie said, "I was a scared little girl when I came to Charleston."
· Ollie recalled riding horses and mules around Rupert quite often, and when she went to Pru's house she rode a horse.
· Ollie father, William Loftus "Nunnie" Hines was not thrilled about Ollie going to Charleston alone. Ollie ended up going with her sister Lena's husband Guy McClung's sister, Gertrude, who married a King. Nunnie felt that Ollie would be safe going with a McClung since they are such reputable folk.
· One day Ollie was going to work at a Charleston lumber company with a friend, taking a streetcar. While they were waiting for the streetcar, this handsome gentleman with a lady passenger drove by in a convertible and Ollie said to her friend that she wondered who that "good looking fellow" was. Her friend said, "It's my brother. Would you like to meet him?" Ollie was naturally stunned, but said yes. Her friend introduced Ollie to her brother Emory Roseman Young at church and a romance blossomed. Ollie and Emory had a tumultuous relationship at first. They would often get mad at each other and argue, and sometimes they would stop seeing one another. Their feelings eventually won out, and Ollie and Emory were married on September 2, 1927 in Charleston. Emory died in May 1992, 4 months short of his and Ollie's 66th wedding anniversary.
· Ollie and Emory have only one child, Emory Roseman Junior, who was born in 1928, and is called Bud by the family. Bud is retired now. He married and had 4 children. According to Ollie, Bud loves lighthouses, and collects lighthouse memorabilia.
· Ollie came to the retirement complex where she lives in 1996.
· Ollie said that her Dad, Nunnie, was loved by many. Whenever anyone would take ill they would go to see Nunnie to get better.
· Ollie's brother William Theodore was known by all as Ted.
· Ollie's sister's Lena Truman Hines married Christopher Guy McClung and they had 11 children. Lena died in 1990. Her brother Fred also had 11 children.
· Her sister Della Daisy Hines married Bern Moore and had at least 3 children, a daughter Thelma who died in December 2000, a son Kenneth and another son who is now living in Texas. Her sister Carrie Virginia Hines married Rome Riley. They had two children, a daughter Jenna and a son who was born dead. Carrie died in 1993.
· Ollie's brother Joseph first married Ada Bivens and later married Evelyn Johnson Cales.
· Ollie said that her grandfather William H. Hines owned slaves.
· Pru gave Ollie a photo of Ollie's grandaunt and granduncle Emma Crane and Will Dietz. (Emma is Edward's daughter and Ollie's grandmother Ann Elizabeth's sister), and Ollie recalled them. She said she remembered that Aunt Emma was a pretty woman.
· Both Ollie and Pru said that they have had great lives and they were both grateful for them.
Kinship is as follows: Ollie to Pru - First cousin once removed; Ollie to Diane - Second cousin once removed; Ollie to Chuck - Third cousin once removed; Ollie to Troy - Third cousin twice removed. I'm just an in-law (sigh); I am half of what ever Diane is. [5]
