      William S. Myers Dies, Republican Historian

      SPECIAL TO THE INQUIRER - PRINCETON, N.J., Jan. 28 - William Starr Myers, emeritus professor of politics at Princeton University and often referred to as the historian of the Republican Party, died today following a heart attack in a restaurant near the campus. He was 78.

      Prof. Myers was a member of the university faculty from 1906 until he retired in 1943. He came to Princeton as one of the 'preceptor guys" who were put on the faculty by the late President Woodrow Wilson who was then head of the school.

      Among his writings were "The American Government of Today," "The Republican Party: A History" and "American Democracy Today." Another book, "The Hoover Administration" was written in collaboration with Walter Newton. Prof. Myers was the editor of the "State Papers of Herbert Hoover" and just recently completed the three volume work "The Story of New Jersey."

      He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Minot C. Morgan, Jr., of Princeton, and Mrs. John H. McLean, of Kingston, N.C., and a brother, John N. Myers, of Summerville, N.C.

He graduated in 1897 from the University of North Carolina and in 1900 received the degree of Ph. D. from Johns Hopkins University; a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and a Professor at Princeton. He married June 8, 1910 Margaret Barr (b. Aug. 1, 1886) daughter of Lester Arlington Barr (b. Jan, 12, 1854 - m. Mar. 1, 1882) and Ida Lee Stewart...(b. Jan 31, 1863 - d. Nov. 1893) of Washington, D.C. [1]
