    • Obituary -- Rebecca O. O'Dell Byars

      Rebecca O. Byars 65 beloved mom, grandma and sister passed away Monday, June 22, 2020 at the Peyton Hospice House following a brief illness.

      Becky was born January 7, 1955 in Charmco, WV to the late Homer and Velma Cales O’Dell.

      Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bruce Byars and grandson Braxton Byars.

      Left to cherish her memory are her 3 sons, Justin and Alyx Byars of Alamagordo, NM, Adam and April Byars of Maxwelton, WV and Thomas and Stephanie Byars of Alderson, WV. Her siblings; Sandy Smith of Bridgeport, WV, Gary and Donna O’Dell of Clintonville, WV, Gail and David Forsong of Katy, Tx and Mary Beth O’Dell of Lewisburg, WV. Also missing her will be her 8 grandchildren; Brodee Byars, Haley Byars, Jaxon Byars, Natalie Byars, Josie Byars, Gracie Byars, River Byars and Aubrey Byars; Special Aunt, Matt Sheridan, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family survive and her canine companions, Jasmine, Belle and Scout.

      Becky was retired from the Greenbrier County School System with 30 years of service to Smoot Elementary School. Upon her retirement, she continued to substitute teach throughout the county.

      She also worked many summers at Camp Alleghany, sharing her love of baking with countless girls from all over the world.

      As a longstanding member of the Big Clear Creek Baptist Church, she enjoyed being of service to her church and community by preparing dinners and giving of her time generously. She enjoyed her time of fellowship with her women’s group there immensely.

      Becky loved gardening, photography, travelling to Tiger Tail Beach with her sisters and niece Kelley, Christmas gag gifts and of course cooking for any occasion. She enjoyed entering her jams, jellies and breads in the State Fair and entering her photographs of birds, butterflies and flower photos in various competitions. Cooking for her family, The Day Report Christmas parties and weekly lunches there were other most enjoyable times for her. She always gave of her time and talent and will be fondly remembered for her thoughtfulness.

      Foremost, her pride and joy were her 8 grandchildren. She loved to attend all of their activities and was their biggest cheerleader and fan.

      Service will be 6:00 p.m., Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle with her nephew, Mr. Garrett O’Dell officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 until time of service.

      As per her wishes she will be cremated.
