Donald Edward Smith, 81, of Rainelle, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2018, in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Born February 13, 1937, in Rainelle, he was the son of the late Carl and Lena Callison Smith.
Don was a graduate of Rainelle High School and Concord College. He was a beloved teacher at Rainelle Junior High and High Schools. He was a 50-year member of the Rainelle United Methodist Church where he has served on many committees, as well as serving as a former chairman of the Trustees. Don was an Honorary Member of the Rainelle Medical Center Board of Directors and served as the chairman of the board for many years. He was active in the WVEA as a member of the Executive Committee and served as president of the GCEA. Don was a licensed financial planner for educators and attended Bascom United Methodist Church in Rupert.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 2 brothers Keith and Billy Ray Smith.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Kay McConnel Smith; 3 daughters Suzzan Maddy of Old Fields, Candy Smith of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Shelley Smith of Buford, Georgia.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 21, in the Rainelle United Methodist Church with Pastor Jonathan Dierdorff officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.
