HINTON \emdash Thomas D. "Cookie" McClung, 54, of 1404 Terrace St., Hinton, died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, November 26, 2009, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a long illness.
Born February 23, 1955, in Hinton, he was the son of the late John D. and Lessie Mae Cook McClung.
Cookie was a graduate of Hinton High School and attended Bluefield State College and West Virginia Tech. He graduated from Emory University in Atlanta and was employed as a respiratory therapist for Northern Hospital-Surry County in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, as long as health permitted. Cookie was a former member of the Hinton Fire Department and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his companion, Peggy Treadway; three sisters, Phyllis Honaker and husband Bob of Twinsburg, Ohio, Pat Ferber and husband Richard of Forest Park, Ga., and Helen Elwell of Livonia, Mich.; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Michael Hazelwood and René Volberg, both of Oak Hill.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2009, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Grover Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
