MOUNT LOOKOUT ? George Walter McClung Sr. 89, of Mount Lookout, Nicholas County, passed to his eternal home on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Born Oct. 4, 1918, at Rich Creek, Fayette County, he was a son of the late Ira D. and Nora Lilly Skaggs McClung. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Mae McClung, on Nov. 22, 2004; two sons, Ronald and Donald McClung; a grandson, Jeremy Edward Ball; five brothers, Bert, Mason D., Paul J., Marvin and Theodore E. McClung; and four sisters, Russie R. Skaggs, Lottie Shelton, Jessie Deitz and Dollie McClung.

He was a loving husband, father and pa pa who always greeted you with a smile, was a member and former trustee of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church at Mount Lookout, was a retired drag line operator, was an Army veteran of World War II with a rank of tech sergeant, and he received the Bronze Star for heroic and meritorious achievement during military operations in Germany. Walter enjoyed life and was usually laughing and joking with everyone he met.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Kimberly and Timmy Ball of Fayetteville; a son and his wife, George Walter Jr. and Sherri McClung of Mount Lookout; four grandchildren, Christi and her husband, Keith McGraw, Erin McClung, Stacey McClung and Cassie Ball; and a great-grandson, William Jeremy McGraw.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Mount Lookout, with Dr. Mark McClung officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Weston.

Friends may call 11:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer?s Association, 11 Lee St., E., Charleston, W.Va. 25301.
