The Rev. James Hylbert McClung died January 17, 2012, at the age of 88, following a long illness. He was born in Hurricane, but grew up in Greenbrier County.

He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a pastor for over 30 years, serving Baptist churches in West Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Prior to entering fulltime ministry, he was employed by United Fuel Gas Company and the U.S. Postal Service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Emory McClung and his wife, Anna Blanche Smith McClung; brothers, Curtis, Dallas, Joe, Roland and Connie McClung; sisters, Hulda, Omega, Ruth, Harriett and Janet; and a daughter, Doris Ann McClung.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, June H. McClung; four sons, Michael (Pam) McClung of Frame, Daniel Joe (Dianne) McClung of Frame, Curtis Earl (Traci) McClung of Wiersdale, Fla., and Charles Mark (Karen) McClung of Pinch; sisters, Helen Kvitky and Polly Murdoch; seven grandsons; two granddaughters; nine great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; and two great-great-granddaughters.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 21, at Hafer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lee Swor officiating. Burial will be in Old Amwell Cemetery, Crawley with Pastor Roy Huffman officiating.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 20, at Hafer Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Dr., Charleston, WV 25311. The family would also like to thank the caregivers at the Hospice House for all the kindness and care given during their time of need.
