OBERLIN, Ohio -- Ira Leighton McClung, 72, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005 at his home, following a brief illness.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, Ohio. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst, Ohio.

OBERLIN -- Ira Leighton McClung, 72, of Oberlin, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005 at his home, following a brief illness. He was born Nov. 12, 1932, in Rupert, W.Va., where he was raised and lived before entering the U.S. Army. He had lived in South Amherst before moving to Oberlin in 1985, where he had lived for the past 20 years.

McClung served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was employed as an interior plant driver for Ford Motor Co. in Lorain for 28 years before retiring in 1987.

He enjoyed tending to his vegetable and flower gardens. He also enjoyed fishing and was an avid Cleveland sports fan.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Lee McClung (nee Perry); son, Tim McClung of Strongsville; brother, Harold McClung of Crawley, W.Va.; sisters Marie McClung of Baltimore, Md., and Virginia McCracken of Charleston, W.Va.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank McClung, Hughes McClung and Everette McClung; his infant sister; and parents Winfred and Pearl (nee Jones) McClung.

Friends may call Monday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Carson Fraley, pastor of North Lake Missionary Baptist Church, will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
