SUMMERSVILLE -- Virginia Sue Carper, 57, of Summersville, died Sunday, July 31, 2005, in the Summersville Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Burl and Mabel Whitt Lewis, and was born at Summersville on Dec. 23, 1947.
She was a former J.C. Penney's employee and a member of the Summersville Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Howard, Hugh, and Arley Ray Lewis; and her sisters, Pearl Gilley and Nellie McClung.
Survivors include her son, Robert Dwayne Tanner of Heidelberg, Germany; two brothers, James R. Lewis of Canvas and John Henry Lewis of Kansas; four sisters, Glenna Curry and Verna Brown, both of Summersville, Ruby Williams and Athelene Nash, both of Greensboro, N.C.; and a granddaughter, Cinthia Michelle Tanner.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville, with the Rev. Nelson Harris and Rev. Dave Acree officiating. Burial will follow in the Dotson-Simpson Cemetery at Keslers Cross Lanes.
Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.
