RUPERT - Gladys Eleanor Hedrick, 84, of Kessler Road, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following a sudden illness.

Born March 27, 1919, at Kieffer, she was the daughter of the late Jennings Ray and Zenna Marshall Walkup Hunter.

She was a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church at Kieffer, was a homemaker and truly enjoyed raising all of her children and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Grandchildren and great-grandchildren have many fond memories of visiting and spending summers with "Granny" as they fondly refer-red to their grandmother. "We remember Granny always had big meals on the table and always cooked our favorite foods. Granny not only raised her children but most of her grandchildren, too." Even her own children recall as they were growing up that Gladys would take in folks in need of temporary places to stay. She was indeed loving and hospitable and was much loved by all of her grandchildren.

Mrs. Hedrick was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Scott Hedrick, on Dec. 11, 2003; five sisters, Dorothy Hunter, Gertrude Quick, Margie Walkup, Ruth Lauer and Jackie Eilts; three brothers, Roy, Ray and Marvin Hunter; and two great-grandchildren, Chad Fleeman and Justin Winfrey.
