Ward William Phipps, 84, of Lothian, died unexpectedly yesterday at Anne Arundel General Hospital following a heart attack.
Mr. Phipps was born in Raleigh County, W. Va., and retired in 1960 as a coal miner there.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Deale.
Surviving are his wife, Lillie Phipps; five sons, Thomas L. of Prince Frederick, Cecil Paul of Pennsylvania, Ward W. Jr., George T. and Charles E., all of West Virginia; four daughters, Mildred Lucier of California, Virginia Tilley of West Virginia, Georgia Fink of Georgia and Peggy Phipps of North Carolina; two sisters, Florence Dillion of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Laura V. Bailey of Orlando, Fla.; and 31 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hardesty Funeral Home in Galesville.
